Volkswagen sets aside $7.2 billion to pay for emissions cheating scandal

Volkswagen, the world’s biggest carmaker by sales, this week admitted that it attempted to deceive US regulators by fitting the emissions-control systems of its cars with software that deceived regulators by going into effect only when the vehicles were undergoing official testing. The company has set aside $7.3 billion to deal with the aftermath of the scandal, even as its share price plunges.
