Either the UK’s energy minister Andrea Leadsom or home affairs secretary Theresa May are almost set to lead Britain as next prime minister. Britain’s will have a female prime minister, second in British history since Margret Thatcher, who led the country from 1979 to 1990.

With Hillary Clinton topping presidential polls in the United States and Chancellor Angela Merkel continuing to govern Germany, three of the West’s leading powers could all be governed by female politicians by January in a historic first.
