All speculations has come to an end with Congress announcing veteran Congress leader and former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit as party’s chief ministerial candidate for the forthcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh scheduled to take place next year. Congress has said party’s decision is based on the experience and commendable work of Dixit. Congress is hopeful to make a dent on the Brahmin vote bank in the state since Shiela Dixit is the daughter-in-law of prominent Congress leader from UP, Uma Shankar Dikshit, who was a Brahmin face. However, election strategist Prashant Kishor has recommended that Dikshit should play a major role in the party’s poll campaign in the state, as she is a prominent Brahmin face and could help Congress regain support of the electorally sizeable community. Well, the situation is not so smooth as a large chunk of Brahmin votes had also gone to Mayawati’s BSP in the past when she gave tickets to many candidates belonging to the community.
