Turkish security forces launched fresh raids on Monday in a relentless crackdown against the suspected plotters of a coup that left over 290 dead. A total of 103 generals and admirals have been detailed in the wake of the failed coup aimed at overthrowing President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. They are now being taken to courts to decide on remanding them in custody.
Around 6,000 people have been detained so far in the investigation into Friday’s coup which Erdogan has blamed on his arch-enemy, US-based preacher Fethullah Gulen. Citizens are urged by the authorities to remain on the streets as a “vigil” for democracy.
