Security beefed up across Red Fort, walled city ahead of I-Day celebrations

Security has been beefed up across Delhi in wake of 70th Independence Day celebrations. Security forces have transformed Red Fort and adjoining areas in walled city into security cover. The security taken over by Prime Ministers’ security units, both Delhi Police and the Special Protection Group (SPG), and the Ministry of Defence from the CISF and the Red Fort has been completely locked out and closed for public till the Independence Day event. Canine squads from the CISF, ITBP, Delhi Police and army are sniffing out the area to look for devices like IEDs and bombs. CCTV cameras have been placed all over the area including the nearby lampposts to monitor movement of people and vehicles. A special control has also been set up with snipers and guns targeted at strategic locales. Apart from this an estimated 4,000 security personnel will be deployed to secure the Red Fort and its adjoining area, almost 3,000 others have been kept on standby.
