The journey to the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi is expected to ease with the announcement of a new route by the shrine board members. The new route from Katra to Ardhkuwari will open for pilgrims ahead of Navratri festival. However, the new 7-km stretch will only be for those pilgrims, who wish to trek the route. The other modes of transportation will not be allowed to venture.
The new route which is facing a protest by the ‘palki’ and horse owners, is so wide that in case of any emergency, an ambulance could easily reach the needy. Ensuring the safety of the pilgrims, the administration has laid non-sleepy tiles on the route as well as it is being covered with a roof top which could easily withstand small stones.
