The attempted assassination on German Chancellor Angela Merkel has reportedly been foiled in Prague. The chancellor had flown into Prague for talks with Czech officials about Brexit when a man tried to break through security cordon forcing local police to act. The Czech police halted an armed man in his car as he tried to join Merkel’s motorcade during her visit to the capital.
According to the local media, an officer fired at the SUV which stopped and while searching the vehicle, officers recovered handcuffs, tear gas and concrete cubes.
A police spokesperson confirmed that at no stage Chancellor Merkel was in danger and the suspect is now under arrest.
