After several failed attempts of trying to cover losses by selling off embattled tycoon Vijay Mallya’s belongings, the money lenders had quite a different experience as they auctioned Mallya’s vintage cars.
This time, bidders jostled to grab the tycoon’s 30 vintage cars put up for auction by global liquor giant Diageo-controlled United Spirits Ltd.
Among the beauties was a 1903 Humber, said to be the oldest running car in the country which went for about Rs 1 crore, whereas a British-made Lancaster fetched Rs 2 crore.

As the auction was an action-packed marathon, the United Spirits has retained the rights to cancel the sale even after successful bidding, adding to the anxiety of the highest bidders, making it first of its kind auction in the country.
