South Africa’s prominent business Gupta family, which has been accused of holding undue political sway over President Jacob Zuma, has decided exit completely from businesses in South Africa before the end of the year. The scandal surrounding the Guptas took a dramatic turn earlier this year after deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas charged the family for offering him President Zuma’s job.
The Guptas have denied accusations that they have used their friendship with Zuma for their business interests. Zuma also defended Guptas that they are his friends and has done anything improper for them. The three Gupta brothers moved to South Africa from India in the mid-1990s.
