The benchmark BSE Sensex fell by nearly 259 points to reach 28,786 in early trade on Friday as investors were treading cautiously ahead of July IIP data due to be released later in the day. The NSE Nifty was also down by 86.35 points at 8866.
The investors booked profits amid a mixed trend overseas as stocks of banks, auto, consumer durables, FMCG, metal and capital goods sectors were negatively impacted by trading the sentiment. YES Bank stocks fell by 5.31 percent to Rs 1,260 causing heavy loses as the company deferred its plans to raise US 1 Billion.
The Indian rupee lost 13 paise to 66.55 paise against the US Dollar.
