PM Modi appeals for peace as tension woes Karnataka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed for calm in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over the distribution of water from the Cauvery River. PM Modi in his statement has said that “Violence cannot provide a solution to any problem. In a democracy, solutions are found through restraint and mutual dialogue. This dispute can only be solved within the legal ambit.”

PM’s statement has come at a time when violent protests have rocked Karnataka following the Supreme court’s direction on releasing more water of river Cauvery in Tamil Nadu. In a view of the situation, section 144 of CPC has been imposed in some parts of Bengaluru city till Wednesday. A total of 15000 police personnel has been deployed across the city for maintaining law and order. Schools and offices remain closed and metro services have also been suspended.
