Meet Diego, a giant tortoise who has been extremely busy over the fifty years, and by busy, we mean he has fathered more than 800 offspring’s and therefore saving his entire species from extensions.
Diego was taken from San Diego Zoo to the Galapagos Islands about fifty years ago so that he would breed and by all means, giant tortoise did exactly that.
Before ‘saviour’ Diego was brought to the Island, there were just two male and twelve alive, who were too scattered out to reproduce. But then, came Diego on a mission to save his species or simply just to have sex and mission complete.
He now lives at a tortoise breeding centre on Santa Cruz Island, where he shares an enclosure with six females.
