400-year-old play ‘Namthar’ performed at Naropa festival in Ladakh

400 years old play known as ‘Namthar’ on the life story of the first Staksang Raspa ‘Sambhunath’ was performed by Ladakh Theater Organization (LTO) at Naropa on Monday.

The play was directed by Mipam Otsal of National School of Drama, New Delhi .

Staksang Shambunath was the reincarnation of the great Indian Siddha Shawaripa and of the great Tibetan yogi Milarepa.

The one hour play shows his journey of pilgrimage to various countries including, Swat Valley of Pakistan. The play skillfully represents how he came to Kashmir, built Hemis monastery and spread the teachings of Dharma.
