For more than 27 million followers the image of His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa is as fresh as the morning snow of the Himalayas. He is the most famous face of Tibetan Buddhism after His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Gyalwang Drukpa was born in 1967 as Jigme Pema Wangchen. He was anointed at the 8th Khamtrul Rinpoche monastery and later enthroned in his own monastery in Darjeeling. He completed his higher education under the great Nyingma Master known as Ontrul Rinpoche. He has also received the United Nations Millennium Development Goals Award and Green Hero Award of India. He also has a Guinness Book world record in tree-planting and `Eco-Pada Yatra’. The head of the Drukpa sect believes in `Live to Love’ philosophy to use kindness and meet the challenges of the modern world.
