Surrounded by rocky mountain, about two km from the Hemis monastery has sprung up a tent town. At the center of the tent town is the Naro Palace in the shape of Stupa. A massive hall has been built near the Naro Palace.
The palace consists of three levels. On the ground floor there are offices and reception. On the first level is a canopy where a golden throne is kept. His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa performs the religious ritual while seated on the ornamental golden throne. Above this is a stupa where the Six Bone ornaments of Naropa have been kept for public viewing.
There are thousands of tents housing people who have come from all over the world. The tents are set apart to facilitate the stay of people from different countries and regions. Shops selling food from various parts of India have also been set up. The entire place is decorated with Buddhist flags, called tarchas. One interesting sight of the festival is old devotees swinging “mane” or prayer wheels all the time.
