The city of pearls Hyderabad is unravelled as a major hub for drug trafficking to international markets. Countries like Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia were supplied the banned drug amphetamines from factory in Hyderabad being leased by Bengaluru-based research scientist named Venkat Rama Rao.

Venkat Rama Rao roped in his former classmate Rajasekhar Reddy, an Indian Air Force Wing Commander with the Information Technology Wing in Delhi. Scientist Rama Rao resumed contact when the IAF officer was posted in Bengaluru. Rajasekhar is accused of having been an important part of the ring’s distribution chain, but only supplied consignments to other brokers and ground-level distributors. He did not sell drugs directly to customers. The IAF officer was caught by Narcotics Control Bureau while he was on his way to Goa from Hyderabad and seized over Rs. 7 lakh cash, five mobile phones and documents from his possession. According officials, more officers, who are allegedly involved in international drug racket, are under surveillance.
