Come next summer and Karnataka to grapple with worst crisis. This is no prophecy but is the observation of environmentalists. The Cauvery impasse continues and it is unlikely to resolve soon. According to environmentalist Dinesh Holla the rivers in the Western Ghats are already running dry and this would cause a severe water crisis in Karnataka.
Holla, who is the convener of Sahyadri Sanchaya that works for the conservation of the Western Ghats, has warned of emerging water crisis in view of the reduced water flow in Netravathi river and its nine tributaries and 42 streams. Holla says that the scene at Western Ghats currently resembles what it is supposed to be in the January-March period and this will lead worse water crisis for the entire state.
