Fire breaks out at Cuffe Parade apts in Mumbai, two dead

A major fire that broke out at the Maker Tower in Mumbai, an up-scale residential society in South Mumbai’s Cuff Parade has killed two persons and has left at least seven injured. The fire broke out in the wee hours on Tuesday today, on the 20th floor of the building, at an apartment owned by Shekhar Bajaj, the Chairman and Managing director of Bajaj Electricals.

Two people sleeping near the stairs died before firemen could arrive. Members of the Bajaj family were among 11 rescued. The fire also spread to the 21st floor. However, the situation is now under control and the rescue work is over. The rescue went on for two hours.
